When I saw the burning of beautiful town hall of Limoges, I remember that during Romanian revolution in '89 the national Library from Bucharest burned. Later during fights in Macedonia a beautiful church from circa 500 en was bombed.
Later in Mali some old manuscripts were burned by Boko Haram.
Taliban demolished Buddha statues in Afghanistan.
Isis blew up Palmyra temples in Syria.
Those attack were against competitive religions, the attack in Limoges was against the secular state of France.
Everything was organized to shock. Italy had the red months in '20. France has now the an hot October.
